A Tale of Two Islands
Our tale started on a small, strangely shaped island that was home to an underpowered stove with an underpowered exhaust fan. Surrounding this island was an equally odd-shaped kitchen with far too many switches, poor lighting, and insufficient cabinetry space.
And thanks to a not so small renovation, our tale took a twist.
The new island is larger, able to comfortably sit 4 people and features a pair of sleek pop-up outlets to facilitate impromptu homework and phone charging sessions. Surrounding this new island are custom-colored frameless cabinets from Plain & Fancy Montclair, a suite of top-notch Thermador appliances, stained oak floors, and Super White Quartzite counters from Dente Trading.
Where there was once poor storage, there are now two full-height pullout pantries, drawers with integrated knife and pot storage and a dedicated Sub-Zero beverage center. Replacing the old 6" ceiling lights are 4" high-output LED recessed lights and factory-installed LED in- and under-cabinet lights. And while the old island was barely visible through the door to the dining room, now the two spaces feel more open and connected thanks to some basic structural modifications.
